Tribal sovereignty has wide-reaching effects on pandemic planning, including isolation and quarantine policies, mass casualty and burial practices. However, funding streams to cover the expenses of planning aren’t always built in. This project represents New Mexico’s approach to funding and empowering tribes in New Mexico to enhance their pandemic preparedness and align it with existing efforts at the county and state levels. This practice may be useful to jurisdictions that are looking for an example of one way to bolster collaboration between a state and tribal governments.
